“I need an outdoor sign” leaves several important questions unanswered. A print used for one sheltered afternoon has different requirements from a sign expected to remain exposed for months. Explain the setting before choosing the material.
Describe the exposure and duration
Tell the shop whether the print will sit under cover, behind glass, or directly outside. Note the expected time in use and whether it will face sun, wind, or moisture. In the Aurora area, a design that works indoors should not automatically be treated as suitable for an exposed location.
Ask which materials and finishing options the shop can provide for those conditions. Do not infer a specific outdoor lifespan from the appearance of a sample. Ink, surface, finishing, installation, and exposure can all affect performance, so discuss the actual product rather than relying on a general label such as “weatherproof.”
Work out how the print will be supported
Measure the available space and explain the mounting system. Will the graphic sit in an existing holder, attach to a structure, or require another support? Confirm who is responsible for installation and whether any mounting hardware is included. Keep important text clear of areas that attachments or frames may cover.
Ask the property owner or venue about placement rules before ordering. Printing a sign does not establish permission to install it. Any permit or venue requirement should be resolved separately from the design approval.
Simplify for the viewing distance
Use a short message, strong contrast, and lettering large enough for the intended viewing position. A person walking past has less time to read than someone standing at a counter. Show a rough layout to another person and ask what they understand first.
Print Photo Solutions offers large-format printing up to 60 inches wide. Contact our Aurora shop with your size, duration, exposure, mounting details, and deadline to discuss available options before finalizing the artwork.
